Research- Trailers vs Teaser Trailers

I decided it was important to identify the difference between what conventions make a teaser trailer and what conventions make a trailer, and the uses for each of the styles.

Trailer

"A series of extracts from a film or broadcast, used for advanced publicity"

Essentially a trailer is a short extract/ promotion for an upcoming feature film. Typically it will show the start of a film which is used as a method to attract the consumer and make them want to watch more. Therefore production companies often use the most action-packed, suspense filled short clips incorporated into the trailer.

Teaser Trailer

"A teaser trailer for an upcoming film... is usually released long in advance of the product, so as to 'tease' the audience."

A teaser trailer is therefore generally released months before the official trailer and feature film itself. It acts as a method to first engage the audience to establish a demographic that want to watch the film and get them excited for the film without giving too much away.
